Press Release

Today (September 26th), Christopher Ward, the UK’s leading watch brand, and renowned artist and watch designer, seconde/seconde/, launch the C65 Desk Diver Limited Edition – a diving watch that is suitable for a swim, but will most likely never make it to the big blue. The new C65 Desk Diver is a tribute to watches that are designed to be used in extreme conditions, however, the highest-pressure environment for most wearers is normally a board meeting. This 500-piece limited edition watch uses the dial and bezel cleverly to help traverse the adverse surroundings of the office, helping wearers navigate their daily interactions.

WARNING! Daily recommended units for doom-scrolling are 0. As the Desk Diver’s clever dopamine toxicity graph shows, by searching for an instant dopamine fix, your faith in humanity will lower at an accelerated rate. Life is to be enjoyed and shared by those around you – let us all stop wasting it on scrolling. There are also friendly reminders that adorn the Desk Diver’s dial and bezel to remind you it is good to stretch and have a walk… but not too far – you have some serious napping to finish before the day is done.

Of course, time for gossip has been allocated on the domed sapphire bezel insert, providing you with a Machiavellian opportunity to stab your colleagues in the back for your own selfish career gain. For those of you who are forgetful, the dial is complete with a “Desk Diver” Post-it, a nod to those who cannot function without writing their to-do list on a fluorescent piece of paper.  Romaric André, aka seconde/seconde/, said: “The irony is, I qualify as a desk diver myself… daydreaming is my first occupation. Watches have the unique ability to transport the wearer from the banal to the exceptional. When you put on a dress watch, boom, surrounded by Art Deco furniture and Carrare Marble, when wearing an Explorer you feel like you are scaling Mt. Everest.

“Reversing this trajectory and taking you back into hard-core-norm-core felt like the obvious next step. At work, you never know what is going to happen next, arguably making it the most unconquered landscape of all. I wanted to remind people to try and find something amazing in the everyday, instead of fantasising about where they could be. “Christopher Ward put no boundaries on my creativity. I used this opportunity to try and get them out of their comfort zone. After working with them on this project, it made me wonder if they are crazier than I am. Thank you Christopher Ward.”

Adrian Buchmann, design lead on the project, commented on the collaboration: “Romaric must have been working overtime with some of the ideas he came up with, which also had me burning the midnight oil. From using a paperclip as the divers’ gas tank on the case back to replacing the ’31’ on the date wheel with falling coins to represent payday, I believe every KPI was hit when we made the final design touches.”  Based on the C65 Aquitaine and made from 316L Stainless Steel, this model is pressure tested to 200 reams of paper (200 metres) with a case height of 12.45 paper clips (mm) and a lug-to-lug of 46.68 paper clips (mm). Powered by coffee shakes of the wearer, the Sellita SW200-1 Automatic movement provides an accuracy of +/-20 seconds per day, perfect for ensuring that you are in the office at 9 and leaving by 5 (or just before, we won’t tell).

Available to purchase from 26/09/24 on a Black Tropic Rubber Strap from £995/ US $1195/ EUR €1295 or the Bader Bracelet from £1,160/US $1395/ EUR €1510. As a well-deserved bonus, each Desk Diver comes with a free Delugs yellow rubber strap. Also included in the custom box are all the essential tools to keep the office ticking as you watch the hours tick by – pencils, paper clips, Post-it notes, highlighters and board pins. What more could you need to excite your co-workers into doing your work for you?
