Nomadic Watches - A Brief History
The Turas has a textured, polar white dial that’s more than a nod to the icy terrain traversed by Shackelton and his men on their ill-fated polar expedition. Raised numerals add a subtle touch of gentlemanly luxury. Phosphorescent hands and dial markers use SuperLumiNova® to release stored light energy slowly, providing vital detail at a glance when the sun dips below the horizon. The Turas 914’s exhibition case back is a tribute to the 1914 endurance expedition. There’s a small engraving of the men’s famous life boat – the James Caird - and their struggle in pulling it across 830 icy miles. The Shackleton family’s motto is engraved on the watch back: ‘Through endurance we conquer.’ Each Turas is proudly built in Belfast, yet another connection to Irish gentry Shackleton and his right-hand-Kerry-man, Tom Crean. Precision engineered and hand-built by our skilled technicians, every Turas 914 has a screw-down case back to guarantee saltwater resistance up to 100m / 330ft."
